I didn’t want to learn to knit in order to make pretty scarves or baby gifts or the latest hipster trend. I wanted to learn to knit so I could make dorky fangirl things. I’ll tell you about my eight-month long struggle with a certain sweater another time, but first let’s talk about how I created this Michael Nesmith knit hat.
If you are a fan of the Monkees, you know a green wool hat as one of the most iconic pieces of Monkees garb. Michael Nesmith wore one for his screen test, and the rest was Monkees history.
I went searching for an easy Michael Nesmith knit hat pattern and found one at Lisaclarke.net. Follow the link for the pattern.
I used Berroco Vintage Chunky yarn in a color called Mistletoe, and 16″ #9 round needles.
I decided to make a bigger, less compact pom pom, which I think makes it look a little more contemporary. I also made it a little shorter (about 9″.) This was a fun, easy project that any Monkees fan can tackle after learning the basics of knitting. Give it a try!
See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil.

How do we purchase a hat?

You might try searching Etsy to see if anyone is selling similar hats, or find a friend that knits and contract with him/her to make one. It’s quite an easy pattern, so you could also make one yourself after a little practice.
