Isn’t it wonderful that citrus season comes right at the most blah time of the year? The colors are amazing and citrus brings such brightness to the healthy recipes many of us are trying to eat in January. This isn’t going to be a healthy recipe, though. Syrup is definitely not one for the resolutions, but this Blood Orange and Lime Simple Syrup is so good!
It’s sweet, pink, and a little zippy courtesy of the lime juice and zest.
Drizzle it on pancakes, use it to sweeten a cocktail, or just eat it with a spoon.
The Recipe
1 cup sugar
1 cup water
zest of 2 blood oranges
1/2 cup blood orange juice (about 2 oranges)
zest of 1 lime
1 tablespoon lime juice
- Place all the ingredients in a sauce pan and stir occasionally until it comes to a boil.
- Remove from heat and let cool.
- Strain the zest and pulp from the syrup.
- Refrigerate until needed.
