This year more than ever it will be crucial to support local and small businesses. By purchasing holiday gifts from a local artist or small business, you are supporting your greater community. Small businesses often give back to their own communities and benefit them in so many ways. But I am also fan of supporting small businesses outside by neighborhood. By supporting entrepreneurs across the planet, I am supporting someone’s dream, and you can too. Because I love all things retro and vintage, I thought I would create a list of some of my favorite holiday Gift Ideas for Vintage Lovers. These are all from small shops and makers. Here they are in no particular order:
Vintage Style Not Vintage Values Shirts
These Vintage Style Not Vintage Values t-shirts come in three fun colors and each month Daisy Jones’ Locker donates $5 from each sale to charities that support the Black Lives Matter movement and are engaged in the fight to end racism and discrimination.
Personal Artwork
2. Custom artwork by Yesterday Alice (Etsy Affiliate link).
Alice creates charming vintage inspired custom portraits and illustrated maps. Last year we commissioned her to create a map that commemorated our anniversary trip to Germany. The map is peppered with our portraits and illustrations of our favorite spots in Rothenburg. Alice creates unique and special gifts that will be cherished for a lifetime. You can order these custom maps through her Etsy shop.
Mask Up!
You gotta wear a mask, so you might as well be stylish and as comfortable as possible. Miss Tashina’s masks are my favorite. The muslin lining keeps me cool and comfortable. They feel much drier than other masks I’ve tried. They have a pocket for a filter, an adjustable nose piece, and adjustable ear straps. But what’s also great about them is that she uses such fun vintage prints.
Handmade Jewelry Makes Great Gift Ideas for Vintage Lovers
4. RachelO’s Fabulous Wimsey jewelry (Etsy Affiliate Link)
Rachel creates super cute earrings and broaches that make fun gifts for a friend or yourself! I especially love her wooden jewelry, like these hand painted earrings.
Forget Me Not
5. Bomb de Fleur jewelry.
Bomb de Fleur creates jewelry with real flowers. Earrings with tiny Forget-Me-Nots would make the perfect gift for a friend that is separated by distance. Or how about a wish necklace with magical dandelion fluff? Channel your inner Anne of Green Gables and find a memorable gift for your bosom friend. I love this Ring with Queen Anne’s Lace, which I recently purchased just for myself.
“True friends are always together in spirit.”
-L.M. Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables
Pop Culture Keepsakes
6. Sweet & Lovely by Kate Gabrielle (Etsy Affiliate Link)
Kate and I are kindred spirits when it comes to taste in movies: Hayley Mills, Audrey Hepburn, You’ve Got Mail… She has pins for introverts and cat ladies; Retro greeting cards; Feminist patches with a retro vibe… I love them all!
Atomic Age
7. VintageRevivalArtCo. (Etsy Affiliate Link)
Who doesn’t love atomic starbursts? VintageRevivalArtCo takes the starbursts we all love and makes them super practical. We have the atomic starburst doorstop, which has saved our wall! Other products include doorbell covers, peep holes, and robe hooks.
Why Shop Small in 2020?
Your favorite big name box stores will likely survive the economic challenges of 2020. Your favorite small shops and makers may not if we don’t keep consistently supporting them. Support them this holiday season! Shop small!
