Upgrade your Happy Hour at home with a tart and springy Lemon Gin Fizz. This cocktail is super simple to make and has only five ingredients.
Sweet or Sour?
One of the things I love about making cocktails at home is that you can experiment with sweetness. Personally, I love a tart cocktail, so I go light on the sweeteners and always use a lot of citrus. This cocktail has both lemon and lime juice making it nice and bright!
Lemon Gin Fizz
Juice of 1/2 a lime
Juice of 1/2 a lemon
2 oz Gin
1/2 teaspoon Agave
Sparkling water
Ice
Instructions
1. to a cocktail shaker add the juice of 1/2 a lime, the juice of 1/2 a lemon, 2 oz of your favorite gin, and 1/2 a teaspoon of agave nectar.
2. Fill with ice and shake.
3. Strain into a highball glass that is filled with ice.
4. Top with sparkling water.
Notes
If you don't like agave nectar or don't have it on hand, you could substitute simple syrup or a teaspoon of powdered sugar.
Pick Your Sweetener
In my vintage Trader Vic’s bartender’s guide, the Lemon Gin Fizz is sweetened with powdered sugar. This dissolves much better in a cold drink than regular granulated sugar. You could also make your own simple syrup with equal parts water and sugar (just heat it up to dissolve and chill before using). For this recipe, I’m using agave. Just use it sparingly, so it’s not too sweet. Taste and add more if needed. As you can see, the choice of sweetener is yours!
