My Mom would throw the best birthday parties when we were kids. There was usually a simple craft project, games, and a treasure hunt for peanuts and candies in the backyard. Our cakes were beautifully decorated, usually with piped buttercream roses. They were beautiful. Perhaps too beautiful, because EVERYONE wanted a rose. Although I don’t recall any fistfights over roses, it was a problem, so Mom got smart and began making extra roses, so each of our friends could have one with their slice of cake.
Scoops and Sprinkles
Time savers were important when wrangling gaggles of giggling girls, and this is one I remember fondly: ice cream scoops with sprinkles, perfectly portioned in cupcake papers.
My birthday was last week, so I was reminiscing about the parties of my youth, and all the thought and love that went into those parties. I started thinking about the sprinkled ice cream cups. They were not only pretty, but a great time saver and easily adapted for any party theme. I had to recreate them.
In the 1980s there weren’t as many varieties of sprinkles and cupcake papers, but think of the possibilities today. This treat could be easily adapted for birthday parties, baby showers, barbeques, and luncheons. Just change up the cupcake papers and sprinkles to fit your theme.
Thanks Mom for all the inspiration!
