I must confess. I’m not really much of a football fan, but I do like the hoopla of the Super Bowl. I like the excuse to eat lots of junk and have a party. Even if it’s a party for two, I still like to make an occasion of it, so how about a 1960s Super Bowl party?
For Super Bowl 50, I decided that my snacks would be inspired by the 1960s. The menu included fondue, cocktail weenies, Piccolo Pizzas (you can see another variation of these Hawaiian Pizza Buscuits here) , and my favorite 1960s dessert bars called Split Levels.
There was also Prosciutto Rollups: Pickles and pickled okra, wrapped with prosciutto, and smeared with cream cheese and horseradish.
It’s easy to make a spread of retro inspired appetizers. You can also check out my post for Five Easy Retro Appetizers for more inspiration.
For Super Bowl 50, I dressed up in a dress with 1960s retro vibes and wore one of my fun vintage aprons. I also made myself a corsage with the team colors, which included pipe cleaner letters just like you’d see at a 1960s college football game.
I find the game itself pretty boring, so I spent most of the game creating obnoxious memes using screencaps from Dragnet.
Three people on Tumblr seems to enjoy them.
What’s your plan for the Super Bowl? Do you make a feast, order pizza, or skip it altogether?
I have to work up to almost kickoff time this year, so my menu will be simplified. If I get really bored (and you know I will) I’ll probably create football memes from Starsky & Hutch screencaps or something just as obnoxious.
